| The much-awaited biggie MAUSAM fetched a heartening start at multiplexes of several centres. Places like Delhi, Indore, Bhopal, Jaipur and Punjab in particular reported the best opening, while at several other places, the opening ranged from ordinary to dull. While the plexes reported better occupancy, the single screens weren't strong, despite the fact that the songs had become hugely popular prior to its release and the promotion has been superb. In fact, people within the industry were expecting a 90% + start across the board, at plexes as well as single screens. The reports of the film are extremely mixed. While the first half has come in for unanimous praise, it's the second hour that is attracting severe criticism. The response, therefore, is bound to be affected in days to come. It will be interesting to see how the film performs during the weekend as well as on weekdays, given the fact that it has no major opposition to contend with this week. Next Friday, of course, will witness a barrage of new films, so MAUSAM has just one week to score. The second release of the week, SPEEDY SINGHS, opened to a weak response everywhere.
