The administration writes to us formally restricting us from landing in Lucknow U.P for the promotion of the film fearing a law and order situation and we comply. We shall not be able to take on the power of the State machinery and it is prudent therefore to resist any bravado. Not that we are incapable of fighting it off, but really to what end. And so to Delhi and home and more interactions with media for the next two days.
There are debates now being conducted in various channels of the television on this film and its ‘probable’ controversy. I say ‘probable’ because no one has seen the film. Those that are building objections to it have not seen the effort. So one asks where is the revolt and where its consequences. Nowhere.
Anyway … its always a pleasure and joy to be with Shweta and the kids and Niky and that is where I headed as soon as the interviews were over. Most of the queries are quite similar, the fresh additions being the stoppage in Lucknow and the consequences of it.
It has now been clearly established that my presence in any form can and does become a source of debate and determined willingness to prevent participation, for fear of some disturbance. And I am often intrigued how that could be possible. I am presuming of course that the perennial tag of being controversial, whether or not controversy comes my way is what intrigues them the most.

The flight in was pleasant, bumpy and cloud laden uncertainty, but by and large a good experience with a new airline - Indigo !! It is strange how apprehensive one gets when one is about to board an unfamiliar object of desire. And then when it is known, how easy life becomes.
I settle in here for a couple of days .. and a continuous flow of tv and print media for interaction and then back to home in Mumbai to prepare for the events to come.
The love of the people of Bihar and their generosity still lingers and I do hope I can visit it again in the  not too distant future … a strong history, a strong view on values and tradition, culture and arts and indeed in many forms of it.

The above is in Patna on my way to the media conference .. the scene outside … but inside the actual picture .. massive crowds and screaming and lads and ladies and pushing and shoving then and hoping that there is attention given to one and all. The people of Bihar simple yet high thinking, a bit amazed by all this brou-haha, but compassionate and very emotional about all that happens here !
I send them all my good wishes and love …

The endless debates continue, the questions ranging from the pertinent to the usual, the body taking it all as it adjusts and shifts to various different locations … the cheers of appreciation, the hunt for autographs and pictures, the thronging of mass audience .. we have entire star cast today … Deepika, Saif, Prateik, Manoj Bajpai, Anjum Rajabali - the writer and of the ever vocal Prakash Jha … its been a relentless and unabashed selling of our product ” Aarakshan “. I have now become so well informed on the subject I could do an interview in my sleep and get away with it …
But the issues are well presented and argued … and even though several permissions were not granted, the turn out from various colleges across Delhi and nearby were a source of great value to us. We are not here to make any product of ours sensational or controversial. Neither is there desire to make it a subject which hurts the sentiments of any community. But when you speculate on a basis where the film has not been seen even and get apprehensive and pass judgement on its validity, then somewhere the system is going wrong. Or the people that are taking objection are going wrong - led astray by the mere fact that it seems that there could be something that would turn out to be volatile. So much distaste on a mere ’seems’. This is not qualified at all. Anyway, we hope that better sense shall prevail for the future and all that needed to be resolved has indeed been resolved. Self belief is more important than any other.
Another day tomorrow with the same intensity and with the same format of debate and interview. Now we need to be asked something different, compassionate and fruitful, than that oft repeated question - ” Are you against it or for it ” …
Its been a delight to have Saif, Deepika and Prateik along with me on all these visits and see and hear them indulge in conversations connected to the film. They shall probably not be there tomorrow, but even this short but very meaningful debate has ben had !!
And at the end of it all my belief still remains that the film when released shall quell, distinctively all the possible combinations and permutations that plague the minds of concerned bodies and shall be viewed as a very sincere effort towards drama and intensity. That ‘poetic justice’ shall prevail and all shall go home happy and in sound belief that they shall be privileged …
In Patna a kind gentleman gave me a book which contained my Father’s works too .. letters that he had written to the concerned gentleman through time. He had had them printed and brought out as a book. I went through some of them, but even the most customary and routine letter seemed like a festival of his efforts in educating the reader to some fact of life and living … on life and death !

There are many that feel it is far too long a period to canvass for it, but the promise given to some one of merit must be respected. Also, the moment of opportunity that needs to be provided for a level playing field is a must.
Good night,
I will end now and hope that there come to mind some semblance of agreement on the present issues and that they be treated with equality ..

When it comes to being punctual and doing his duties perfectly, Lovely Singh is unmatchable. Taking great pride in what he does, he spares no effort in giving his everything to his profession.

Summoned for an assignment of guarding Divya, the daughter of Sartaj Rana, a business tycoon. Lovely Singh accompanies her to her campus, but ends up rubbing her the wrong way with his over-protective nature ...and paranoia about security. She finds him to be a major obstacle in leading a regular campus life. To throw him off-track and get him out of the way, she comes up with a 'master-plan'- that of trapping him in a fake love affair. 'Once he's smitten by the girl of his dreams and is reveling in his new-found romance, he will leave us alone, and we shall be free to do our own thing unhindered', says Divya to her friends.

She becomes an anonymous admirer of his and starts hounding him, expressing her 'feelings' in no uncertain terms. Lovely Singh however proves to be a tough nut to crack, and it takes quite a bit of doing from her side to penetrate his fort-like exterior. But once she succeeds in doing so, he transforms into a completely different person. Divya is triumphant and is all set to relish her regained freedom.

But things take an unexpected turn when she learns a few things about Lovely Singh. Things that she could've never even imagined! And she soon finds herself trapped in a dilemma that she's unable to resolve! And with her, soon enough, Lovely Singh finds himself ensnared in a web of lies, trickery and deceit!

Mini Biography
Aamir was first introduced as a child artiste in the 1970's hit Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973) -- he was the youngest child in the trio. He 'quit' movies and went on to become the state tennis champion for Maharashtra. Aamir also fell in love with the girl next door in the meantime. He proposed to her the day he turned 21, and she accepted. But apparently, there was opposition since she was from a Hindu family and he, from a devout Islamic one. So, they eloped, got married and returned to their homes. Aamir's wife Reena even appears in the song "Papa Kehte Hain" that made him the darling of the nation. From the tremendous success of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak(1988), which was released when he was 23, he has blossomed into India's finest actor. His list of sterling performances include Dil (1990), _Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin (1990)_, _Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander (1992)_, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993), Andaz Apna Apna (1994), Bollywood Dreams(1995), Raja Hindustani (1996), Ishq (1997), Ghulam (1998) and Sarfarosh (1999).

His performance in Earth (1998) as the Ice-Candy man has received rave reviews from Indian and International critics. Using classic "method acting", Aamir acts in all genres of Indian films - comedy, action, drama and romance. Though he performs in few films, Aamir Khan is acknowleged today as the most complete Indian actor for his diverse choice of roles and films.

Mini Biography
Aamir khan was born on March 14 1965 in Holy Family Hospital in Bandra, Mumbai in India in a conservative Muslim family which has been part of Hindi Film Industry for a long time. Aamir first came on screen as a child artist in his Uncle Nasir Hussain's production Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973), it was not a real part just a blink and miss appearance in the title song of the film. He again appeared as a child artist in the film Madhoshi (1974). Much later he appeared in the art film Holi (1984)along with his friend and later his director Ashutosh Gowariker, the film also starred Naseeruddin Shah. Subsequently he went on to become the state tennis champion of Maharashtra. Sometime before his debut film Aamir fell in love with a girl in his neighborhood Reena. Since she belonged to a Hindu family and he from devout Muslim family, they faced opposition and therefore they married secretly, later they revealed it to the world after his debut movie as lead Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak(QSQT) as a leading man was released in 1988, the film was a run away success and he achieved instant stardom (the film is now considered a classic of Hindi Cinema)and not only that the film was successful in turning the tide away from action centric violent films to family oriented romantic musical dramas in Hindi Cinema, the luminous example of which are MPK (1989), HAHK (1994) and DDLJ (1995). In his second film Raakh (a small, art film) he did a complete opposite role from the lover boy of his first film, his breakthrough performance in this film bagged him the National Film Award of Special Jury. Afterwards he signed a few not so good films which failed at the box office. In the year 1990 he delivered the biggest grosser of the year in the form of Dil and since then he has not looked back giving several commercial and critical hits, his superlative performances include films like Dil (1990), Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin (1991), Daulat Ki Jung (1992), Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander( 1992), Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke( 1993), Parampara (1993), Andaz Apna Apna (1994), Baazi( 1995), Rangeela (1995), Akele Hum Akele Tum (1995), Raja Hindustani (1996), Ishq (1997), Earth(1998), Ghulam (1998), Sarfarosh (1999), Dil Chahta Hai( 2001), Lagaan (2001), Mangal Panday (2005), Fanaa( 2006) and Rang De Basanti (2006).

In 2007 he turned director with the film Taare Zameen Par which not only brought him immense critical acclaim but was a huge box office success. Many of his films are considered as cult classics like QSQT, Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai, Range De Basanti, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander and Andaz Apna Apna. He divorced his first wife in December 2001 and married Kiran Rao in December 2005.

In 2008 his first all out commercial action film Ghajini went on to become the highest grossing film of its time in Indian Cinema and 4th highest inflation adjusted, grossing a total of Rs.226 on the worldwide box office and the first film to cross 100 crores on the domestic Indian box office, making a total of Rs.115 crores. This record didn't last long though when his next release 3 Idiots went on to shatter not only the highest grosser record but many more. It not only made the highest opening first day, first weekend and first week records but subsequently continued to shatters many record on the following weekends and weeks, making many circuits records on the way. It made a total of Rs.202 crore domestically and Rs.400 crores on worldwide box becoming the highest overseas grosser till date, a staggering feat given that no other film has even come close to making Rs.100 crore on the domestic box office till date, except his own Ghajini last year.

Aamir is said to be the actor who first started the trend of actor's working in one film at a time, when the others worked in four or five at the same time. He is also known to shun popular film trade magazine awards like Filmfare, Star Screen etc as he doesn't have trust in their credibility and transparency. Recently he was awarded the third highest civilian honour Padama Bhushan by the government of India.

Aamir Khan, a method actor, his range of characterizations remains unparalleled and because of this diversity and his ability to portray different characters believably on screen, today he is regarded as not only one of the biggest Superstars but also one of the finest actors of Indian Cinema.

"The title is being conferred to recognise the successful work done by Khan in 15-year career span and his contribution to Indian cinema - as an artiste and entrepreneur," Audiovisual Attache - Head of the French Film and TV office, French Embassy in India, Mohamed Bendjebbour told PTI.

The distinction is given to persons who have established themselves by their creativity in the field of art, culture and literature or for their contribution to the influence of the arts in France and throughout the world, Bendjebbour said.

French Ambassador in India Jerome Bonnafont will confer the title on Khan at the inaugural ceremony of four-day French film festival - First rendezvous with French cinema here in Mumbai on January 27.

This is not the first time an Indian film personality is being honoured by the French government. In 2005, renowned director Adoor Gopalakrishnan was bestowed with a similar title as Khan, while last year Amitabh Bachchan was conferred with "The Legion d'Honneur", France's highest civilian honour.

"We have the tradition of honouring great film personalities in India. Our government believes that Indian film industry is today among the best in the world in terms of quality," the official said.

The three-day festival will showcase seven commercial French titles, in an attempt to initiate and popularise French cinema in Mumbai, before travelling to other cities. The Cultural Service of the French Embassy in India is organising the festival, in association with UniFrance, an organisation committed to promoting French cinema across the world.

"Indian cinema and the audience both have matured a lot in last couple of years. This change has coincided with the multiplex boom in India. We thought the time is ripe to tap its potential," said Philippe Martinet, Cultural Counsellor to the French Embassy in India, adding "we also want filmmakers to use France as the backdrop for their movies." Among the seven films to be screened, would be Roman de Gare (Crossed Tracks), directed by the Academy and Palm d'or awardee, Claude Lelouch. Other films are La Science Des Reves (The Science of Sleep), and the world premiere of Asterix at the Olympics amongst others.

All these films to be showed in the festival would be released in India. Major companies like Polydor and Shemaroo have bagged the title rights for India release.

"We've spent some time conducting non-commercial screenings of French movies in multiplexes across the country and have received a good response," said Martinet.

Bollywood ka badshah Shahrukh Khan’s ambitious movie Ra. One which is being made with a very high budget is also got attracted to the excellent facilities and the amazing locations in the RFC. Hence, Shahrukh Khan and his Ra.One team have come down to shoot some action scenes at Air Port set in RFC.

Shivasena spit fire on Shahrukh Khan

The radical Shivasena party of Mahrashtra has spit fire on Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan for attending the grand function celebrated on the eve of Hrithik Roshan’s latest Hindi movie ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Na Dobara’ release followed by Bollywood beauty Katrina Kaif’s birthday function. The Shivasena’s mouth- piece-news paper ‘Samna’ has severely criticized Shahrukh Khan for grandly celebrating the occasion, while entire Mumbai is mourning for the deaths of its citizens in the recent bomb blasts. Shivasena states “Shahrukh Khan is hero in reel life but he is a villain in the real life.”

Salman and Shahrukh make Katrina’s birthday special

Katrina Kaif’s birthday on Saturday was made special by both Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan. How? Read on...

Katrina herself had no plan to party on her birthday on July 16. But on the eve of her birthday, she met up with both Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan. Katrina promoted the film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara on Friday evening and then went to an Oshiwara pub where she is reported to have met Salman Khan. After meeting Salman, Katrina headed for a special screening of the film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara organized by Shahrukh Khan at his residence Mannat.

The screening was followed by an impromptu party to celebrate Katrina’s birthday. Everyone from the film -- Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol -- enjoyed fully.

But that was not it. We hear that the next day, Katrina’s birthday, she was invited to Salman Khan’s residence Galaxy Apartments for a lunch. Katrina reportedly spent quality time with the Khans and pampered her taste buds without thinking about her diet regimen going for a toss.

It was her birthday and the lady was in a mood to let go. What’s worth appreciating is that it was made special by both Shahrukh and Salman who, we all remember, had ruined her birthday bash in 2008 by their fight. One only wishes Shahrukh and Salman too had shaken hands and come together on this birthday of Katrina. Well, next time, may be.

Dada fans angry over Shahrukh khan

Cricket lovers and Dada (Saurav Ganguly) fans in Bengal are fuming with fury against Bollywood actor and the owner of Kolkata Knight Riders team Shahrukh khan, for not taking their favorite cricketer Dada into his team. They believe that, it’s nothing but insulting the Bengali tiger Ganguly. Dada fans warn Shahrukh khan that, his team will not be allowed to play the match in Kolkata without having their Dada in the team. Therefore, Shahrukh has assured them that he will certainly try to take Dada into his team. But, he also very well knows that, even he can not alter the team as it’s a multi million game.

Two-much-too-soon for Shahrukh?

Buzz is building up for Shahrukh Khan this year. First he has 'Ra. One' arriving on Diwali and then he would be wrapping up 2011 with 'Don 2' hitting the screens on Christmas. Though typically Shahrukh starrers are spaced by at least a year, this is not really turning out to be the case this time around.

"When Shahrukh originally started work on 'Ra. One' and 'Don 2', the original idea was to keep the two films distanced by a good enough duration. 'My Name Is Khan' had arrived early last year and even if 'Ra. One' would have released this summer, one wouldn't have minded 'Don 2' to arrive this Christmas as this would have led to six months gap", says an industry insider.

However with 'Ra. One' seeing an extended schedule and the film still being shot, there was no other choice for Shahrukh but to grab Diwali slot. Meanwhile with Farhan Akhtar and Co. already closing on the festive occasion of Christmas.

"The fact is that his fans have indeed been spoilt with an offer of 'two-much-too-soon'", quips a prominent filmmaker.

Now whether Shahrukh's strategy of bringing two of his films so close to each other goes in his favour or not would be known in a few weeks from now once comparisons between 'Ra. One' and 'Don 2' further catch on more heat.

Ra.One first look released on twitter

Shahrukh Khan's highly anticipated film, ‘Ra.One’ was released on twitter. It has been open to the audience in the form of 10 second teaser. Director Anubhav Sinha unveiled the first look of Ra.One on social networking site Twitter on 23rd morning.

To keep the excitement on, the rest 40 sec teaser will be shown on 24th March on ESPN –Star channels during the world cup quarterfinal match of India and Australia. It was a scince-fiction and the trailer shows Shahrukh Khan like a superhero, flying in the air, moving through the crowd like a superman.

The 100 crore budget film brings together Kareena Kapoor and Shahrukh Khan again after ‘Asoka’. The movie will also see Arjun Rampal playing a pivotal role.

Well, the teaser looks really amazing and Shahrukh a real superhero.

Shahrukh reveals his first crush

Many female fans fall week at Shahrukh Khan’s knees but his heart was ruled by two yesteryears actress when he was in his teens, they are Saita Banu and Mumtaz. Shahrukh Khan during the music launch of his home production, 'Always Kabhi Kabhi’ said, “My first two crushes have been Mumtazji and Sairaji. Now I address them with a 'ji'. I always felt that they were the most beautiful ladies in the world. My father used to find Madhubalaji very beautiful".

The actor added that he used to shake a leg when he heard songs picturised on the two actresses.

"I remember Sairaji's Bhai Batur. She was in a tub in the video. Even I would get into a tub and dance. Then there was Mumtazji's Chakke Mein Chakka," said SRK.

When asked if he had a crush on any of the actresses from the present time, Shahrukh known for his witty answers said, "Times have changed. Now the girls have crushes on me."

King Khan is the king of vulgarity

Actress Neha Dhupia rightly said that only Shahrukh Khan and sex sells in Bollywood. Tickets for the Shahrukh’s show in Dhaka were sold out like hot cakes and a 30000-strong crowd thronged the Dhaka's Army Stadium on December 10 to see their star perform live. But a Bangladeshi newspaper called King Khan as ‘The King of vulgarity'.

Weekly Blitz, a leading local newspaper, came down heavily on Shahrukh’s show, which also featured actors like Arjun Rampal, Rani Mukherjee, Eesha Koppikhar and Dia Mirza. It alleged that Shahrukh did things that hurt the sentiments of the Bangladeshis.

The newspapers slammed Shahrukh for smoking in public and alleged that he did it intentionally to drive a point that he doesn’t care the Bangladeshi authorities. It questioned why the actor was allowed to use the VVIP terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka while he doesn’t enjoy such privilege even in his own country.

Shahrukh also received flaks for uttering Bangla slang on the stage. He also spoke in Hindi and English at the show. The newspaper also alleged that the Russian dance troupe that accompanied him, indulged in illicit activities with the locals.

Shahrukh Khan invites friends for India-Pakistan semi final

Shahrukh Khan will be suspending all his important work on Wednesday. The superstar will be watching the India-Pakistan match in the semi-final clash of the two teams in the Cricket World Cup.

We hear that Shahrukh has plans to put up a big screen home theatre at his residence Mannat especially for the screening of the match. Moreover, he has invited all his close friends from the industry to join him on the big day to watch the super-match of the tournament.

It can be recalled how Shahrukh had cheered for team India in South Africa when India played Pakistan in the finals of the first T20 World Cup in 2007. This time, too, he and his friends will obviously root for India.

The semi final match is turning out to be special in many ways. Besides a sporting contest, it has become ground for diplomacy between the two countries as Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has invited his Pakistani counterpart to watch the match in Mohali.

'D' for Don, is now for Shahrukh Khan

SRK sports a fancy ‘D’ tattoo on his arm in Don 2; don’t mistake this for just another ‘D’ as the Don 2 team designed it especially for Shahrukh Khan.

Ritesh Sidhwani the producer of Don 2 reveals that the three of them (Farhan, SRK and Ritesh) jointly decided that it would be a good idea to make the tattoo permanently Shahrukh’s, and they created a new design and registered it.

Not only that, they see the potential in the Don franchise, and plan on creating a line of Don inspired merchandize that will feature the ‘D’ symbol - caps, T-shirts, bags and such. You can see the branding starting with the ‘D’ in the first look of the movie!

Shahrukh continues to grow as a producer, he has turned his cricket team the Kolkota Knight Riders into contenders, and is now turning into a marketing guru of sorts who is always trying to go the extra step to bring something new to the audience -- getting Akon to sing a hindi track in Ra.One; or to reach the audience in new ways -- turning Ra.One into a Playstation video game.

Don 2 will see two new additions in the face of Lara Dutta and Kunal Kapoor, the rest of the cast is the same as Don and includes Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Boman Irani and Om Puri. Arjun Rampal will not be seen in the sequel.

The film will release on December 23, just two days ahead of Christmas. Guess Don 2 will conclude 2011 with a BOOM! Making way for a Don 3 someday.

No Smalltalk Between Shah Rukh Khan And Amitabh Bachchan

Shahrukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan Comments.

One chance to bring Big B and SRK to share screen space together was Ravi Chopra’s Bhoothnath, but even that seems to be of no consequence now. Shahrukh Khan and Juhi Chawla play parents to the kid who, after the family shifts to Goa, finds out a friendly ghost which can be seen only him.

Amitabh Bachchan plays the friendly ghost but the actor and SRK has to come together on screen for the climax scene.

Disappointingly both won’t be exchange any conversation as no one apart from the kid can see the ghost and so doesn’t SRK. Hmm…so there is no room for media to cook up stories to fuel the inconvenient relation between the two.

But I am sure even if they were asked to converse like in Mohabbattein, the actors would do it with ease. Their professionalism is quite famous after all! The film will be a visual treat for the audience, especially for the kids. And it will be good to see Shahrukh and Juhi together again after a long time. The movie will be ready by July 2007.

Sabse Tez 'SRK'

Shahrukh Khan is ruling Bollywood for more than two decades now but the energy level seems to have amplified which has inspired his ‘Always Kabhi Kabhi’ team. Ali Fazal goes gaga about the unbeatable King Khan and his fast learning talent.

Ali claims that SRK behaves like a old friend and said, “Shahrukh Khan is a brilliant entertainer. We shot for a promo song which took us three days but SRK came on the sets and learnt the entire dance sequence in an hour and we were able to complete the shoot in a day.”

“SRK guided us with camera angle and positioning which helped us to perform better. It’s a great platform to play a lead in his production,” Ali concluded.

SRK’s get-up-and-go attitude is definitely helping the beginner in B’town where they look up to him as an inspiration.

Pak hawkers attacks Shahrukh’s website

Shahrukh Khan-Bollywood ka Badhshah is in troubles. The stars of this great star is seems to be not in his favor these days. His Kolkata Knight Riders team has disappointed him in the recent IPL-4 matches. Then, he had big dreams over his ambitious movie ‘Ra One’ which is being made with huge budget. He starts an exclusive website for this film and even planned to introduce video games on this movie concept. But, recently some Pakistani hawkers have attacked his website and disrupted it. A pop song which he believed would be the highlight of his movie was also leaked in the internet. Hence, Shahrukh Khan who feels very sad over these developments has stated “It really hurts me to face all these developments. I have planned to give a wonderful movie to my fans. But, this kind of attacks and stealing the songs from my film is very discouraging.”

SRK to perform at Airtel Bindaas India concert

Shahrukh Khan along with other Bollywood celebrities is all set to perform at the two hour live Airtel Bindass India concert, organized by UTV’s Bindass.

Boman Irani, Priyanka Chopra, Dia Mirza, Dino Morea, Rakhi Sawant, Kunal Ganjawala, Ganesh Hegde, Nitin and Mauli Dave are the other bollywood stars who will be joining Shahrukh Khan.

The concert will also have Bindaas comical Hass Ley India Duo Mantra and Anirudh performing at the MMRDA grounds, Mumbai, on January 13, 2008. And the telecast is scheduled on January 26.

SRK misses parents at release of biography

Striking an emotional note, Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan, whose biography was released at a function in Mumbai, said he wished his parents were alive to experience the moment.

"I wish my parents were alive to see how much importance is given to me. It is quite overwhelming. I am embarassed about this," Shahrukh said at the release function on Wednesday evening.

The 460-page coffee table book Still Reading Khan, is written by Mushtaq Shaikh.

After watching a short film on his early days as an actor in the course of the function, Shahrukh said, "the best part of today's function was when I saw my old house in Delhi and it brought back memories of my Mom and Dad. I really wish they were here".

When compere Sajid Khan praised the actor's "big house and big car", the actor laughed out saying, "Sometimes I think that all I have is only a big car and a big house and nothing else. I think many more cotemporaries deserve to be written about but perhaps because the author is my neighbour, I was written about first."

Recalling Shaikh's interviews with him for the book, Shahrukh said, "I think he and I met and talked only between midnight and five in the morning. All he did was to ask me question about my life. I did not ask him what he exactly was writing".

In a touching a gesture, most of Shahrukh's directors including, Farah Khan, Aziz Mirza, Farhan Akhtar (who directed him in forthcoming Don) and Karan Johar came on stage to congratulate him and cut a cake to celebrate the book release.

(Biography)

Late 1980s

Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan made his acting debut in the 1988 film Biwi Ho To Aisi where he played a supporting role. His first leading role in a Bollywood movie was in Sooraj R. Barjatya's romance Maine Pyar Kiya (1989). The film went on to become one of India's highest grossing films. It also won him a Filmfare Best Male Debut Award, and a nomination for Filmfare Best Actor Award. Maine Pyar Kiya was the biggest hit of 1989 in India, one of the most successful Bollywood movies of the 1980s, and it established Salman Khan's status in the industry.

1990s

1990 saw only one film release starring Khan, Baaghi, co-starring alongside southern actress Nagma. The film was a box office success, and was followed by another successful year in 1991 when he starred in three hit films, Patthar Ke Phool, Sanam Bewafa and Saajan. Despite these tremendous early box office successes, all of his 1992-1993 releases resulted in box office failures.

Khan clawed back his previous success in 1994 with his second collaboration with director Sooraj Barjatya in the romance Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, co-starring Madhuri Dixit. This film was the biggest hit of that year, and turned out to be one of Bollywood's highest grossing films ever, becoming the fourth highest earner of all time. Apart from being a commercial success, the film was widely acclaimed and Khan was praised for his performance, earning his second nomination for Best Actor at the Filmfare. Three more films released that year featured Khan, none of which making a significant impact on the box-office as was the case with the previously mentioned title. He did however win praise for his performance in Andaz Apna Apna, alongside co-star Aamir Khan, which has gained a cult status since its release. In 1995 he cemented his success with Rakesh Roshan's blockbuster Karan Arjun, co-starring alongside Shahrukh Khan. The film was the second biggest hit of the year, and his role of Karan once again put his name among the nominees for the Best Actor award at the Filmfare, which was eventually won by his Karan Arjun co-star Shahrukh Khan.

1996 was followed by two successes. The first one being Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directional debut Khamoshi: The Musical, co-starring Manisha Koirala, Nana Patekar and Seema Biswas. Though a box office failure, the film was critically acclaimed. He next starred alongside Sunny Deol and Karisma Kapoor in Raj Kanwar's action hit Jeet.

He had only two releases in 1997: Judwaa and Auzaar. The former was a comedy directed by David Dhawan co-starring Karisma Kapoor, where he played a dual role of twins separated at birth. The film was a box office hit. The latter, co-starring Shilpa Shetty failed to do well, but developed a cult following after its video release.

Khan worked in five different films in 1998, his first release being the comedy Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya opposite Kajol, one of the biggest commercial successes of that year. This was followed by the moderately successful drama Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai. Khan played a young man who has to take a child who claims to be his son, under his custody. Khan's performance in the film earned him several positive notices and favourable reviews from critics. He rounded of the year with Karan Johar's directorial debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Co-starring alongside Shahrukh Khan and Kajol, he had only an extended cameo playing the role of Aman. However, it eventually turned out beneficial to him, as his performance earned him his second Filmfare Award under the Best Supporting Actor category.

In 1999, Khan starred in three hit films: Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United, which reunited him with Sooraj Barjatya for the third time; Biwi No.1, which became the top grossing film that year; and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, which was a major critical success, and earned him another Best Actor nomination at the Filmfare.

2000s

In 2000, Khan acted in six films, most of which failed critically and commercially, except for the two moderately successful films, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega and Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, both of which co-starred Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta. His performance in Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, the release of which was delayed until 2001, was received well. The film was one of the first Bollywood movies to handle the issue of surrogate childbirth; Khan played the role of a rich industrialist, who hires a surrogate mother after his wife becomes infertile. Critics noted his turn towards a more serious role, which reportedly had more substance in comparison to his previous roles. In 2002 he starred in the delayed release Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam which was semi-hit at the box office.

Khan's following releases failed at the box office until he made a comeback in 2003 with Tere Naam. The film was a major earner and his performance was praised by critics, with film critic Taran Adarsh noting, "Salman Khan is exceptional in a role that fits him to the T. He breathes fire in sequences that demand uneasiness. But beneath the tough exterior lies a vulnerable person and this facet in particular comes to the fore in the latter reels. His emotional outbursts are splendid.

His work was noticed internationally in the movie Phir Milenge (2004) where he played the role of an AIDS patient. It was well appreciated by the World Health Organization (WHO) for presenting the problems of AIDS patient in today's world. He subsequently continued his success at the box office, with comedies like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) and No Entry (2005).

2006 was an unsuccessful year for him when Jaan-E-Mann and Baabul both failed to do well at the box office.

Khan started 2007 with the ensemble film Salaam E Ishq which failed to do well at the box office. His next release Partner did very well at the box office, receiving a blockbuster verdict. He next appeared in his first Hollywood movie, Marigold: An Adventure in India opposite American actress Ali Larter. Telling the love story of an Indian man and an American woman, the film was a major failure, both commercially and critically.

Khan starred in three films throughout 2008, all of which underperformed, though his second film of the year, Heroes, met with praise from critics.

Salman hosted the second season of 10 Ka Dum in year 2009 which turned out to be even more successful than his first season as the host of the game show in year 2008. The show got very high TRPs for Sony Entertainment Television (India) and according to reports, the show helped Sony TV regain its third position in the Indian television ratings.

Khan's first film of 2009, Wanted directed by choreographer turned director Prabhu Deva was declared a smash hit in its first weekend of release itself. The action film turned out to be a huge success. The movie got more recognition for its slick action sequences performed by the actor himself.

(Personal life)

Khan is the eldest son of celebrated a screenwriter Salim Khan who has to his credit several successful films like Sholay, Deewar and Don, and his first wife Salma Khan (maiden name Sushila Charak). His stepmother is Helen, a famous yesteryear Bollywood actress, who has co-starred with him in Khamoshi: The Musical (1996) and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999). Khan is a dedicated bodybuilder. He trains everyday and is famous for taking off his shirt in movies and stage shows alike. In 2004, he was voted 7th best-looking man in the World and the best looking man in India by People magazine, U.S. Khan has been involved in several charities during his career.

Despite being romantically linked with several actresses, and having relationships with ex-girlfriends Aishwarya Rai, Somy Ali and Sangeeta Bijlani, Khan is frequently featured by Indian media as Bollywood's most eligible bachelor. He has been dating model-turned-actress Katrina Kaif since 2003.

On 11 October 2007, Khan accepted an offer from Madame Tussauds wax museum in London to have a wax replica made of himself. His life-size wax figure was finally installed there on 15 January 2008, making him the fourth Indian actor to have been replicated as a wax statue in the museum.

(Controversies)

Legal troubles

On 28 September 2002, Salman was arrested for rash and negligent driving. His car had collided into a bakery in Mumbai; one person who was sleeping on the pavement outside the bakery died and three others were injured in the mishap. Charges of culpable homicide were laid against him, but later dropped, and he was found not guilty. However, he will still have to stand trial for a series of lesser charges pertaining to the incident.

On 17 February 2006, Khan was sentenced to one year in prison for hunting an endangered species, the Chinkara. The sentence was stayed by a higher court during appeal. On 10 April 2006, Salman was handed a five year jail term for hunting the endangered Chinkara. He was remanded to Jodhpur jail, and remained there until 13 April when he was granted bail. On 24 August 2007, the Jodhpur sessions court, upheld the 5 year jail term for Khan in the Chinkara poaching case by turning down his appeal against the 2006 judgement. At the time of the hearing, he was busy with a shooting elsewhere, while his sister attended the proceedings. Day after, he was placed under police arrest in Jodhpur after a Rajasthan court upheld a prison sentence passed upon him for poaching. On 31 August 2007, Khan was released on bail from the Jodhpur Central jail where he has spent six days.

(Relationship Troubles)

His turbulent relationship with actress Aishwarya Rai was a well publicised topic in the Indian media, and had constantly filled gossip columns. After their break-up in March 2002, Rai accused him of harassing her. She claimed that Khan had not been able to come to terms with their break-up and was hounding her; her parents lodged a complaint against him.

In 2005, news outlets released what was said to be an illicit copy of a mobile phone call recorded in 2001 by the Mumbai police. It appeared to be a call in which he threatened his ex-girlfriend, Aishwarya Rai, in an effort to force her to appear at social events held by Mumbai crime figures. The call featured boasts of connections to organized crime and derogatory comments about other actors. However, the alleged tape was tested in the government's Forensic lab in Chandigarh, which concluded that it was fake.

(Fatwas)

In September 2007, a Muslim organisation issued a fatwa against Khan for attending a Ganesh puja. Stating that Islam prohibits idol worship, the organisation stated that unless Khan reads the kalmas - the declaration of faith, all over again, he will not be considered a Muslim. In addition to that, Khan celebrated the Ganesh Mahostav with his family in Bandra; they brought a Ganesh idol for one day for the sake of his stepmother, Helen. Khan was among the group who danced in the procession. His father responded by criticising the fatwa, and stated that Salman had done nothing wrong.

Another fatwa was raised against Khan by a Muslim cleric in India, mufti Salim Ahmad Qasmi, for allowing Madame Tussauds in London to make a wax model of himself. The mufti said the statue is illegal and the Sharia forbids depictions of all living creatures. This created speculation in the press, as no fatwa was released against fellow Muslim, Shahrukh Khan who also has a wax model in the museum. Salman responded by saying, "These fatwas are becoming a joke".

The fatwa was raised upon Khan again in September 2008, for celebrating the Ganeshotsav Hindu ceremony at his home with the family. The fatwa was raised by the member of the Advisory Council, Jama Masjid, in New Delhi. On this occasion, his father, Salim, again questioned the fatwa and criticised those who raise it.
