Desi Boyz Day 1 Collections | Early Estimate

Desi Boyz was off to a Good Start on Friday. The Film is having some hard time in maharashtra as bandh has been called in kohlapur and pune.

The Film Will Recover in these regions as the bandh is for one day mainly and the film is being appreciated by majority of the viewers. The Magic of Akshay Kumar and John Abraham May Work once again at Box office, that is what is more likely at the moment.

The First day Box Office Collection may come around 6-7 crores. The film has taken a very average opening of 45% for the Shows till afternoon. Depending on how the film performs in evening shows the collections may jump a lot or drop a lot.

Desi Boyz has taken one of the best single screen opening of the year also. Punjab and Delhi/UP belt is very strong for all Akshay Kumar starrers including this one. Both, Rockstar and Ra.One will be affected largely from Desi boyz.

Rockstar Second Week Collections | India & Overseas

Rockstar is performing really well at the theatres. Its Second Week Box office Collections are also one of the finest this year.

The Film Netted a Total of 15.25 crore collection this week. The First Week’s Updated Figure is 48.75 crores. This Takes the 2 Week total of Rockstar to a huge 64 crore Figure.

Rockstar has Collected $2.65 Million Overseas in 2 Weeks. This Figure in India Rupee is 13.5 crores.

Hence, Rockstars 2 Weeks Worldwide Collections are 78 crores approx. Rockstar’s business will be surely affected due to release of Desi Boyz.

Ra.One vs Bodyguard | Which is Ahead at Worldwide Box Office ?

There is Lot of Dispute between Ra.One and Bodyguard. Can you please tell who is the clear winner between these two ?

The Short Answer – Bodyguard is a Clear Winner.

The Long Answer – Bodyguard Collected 142 cr in India and 40 cr Overseas. Total is 183 crores. Ra.One is 115-118 crores in India and 50 cr(expected) Overseas, and Also 8.5 cr from Regional Version. So its Total is around 173 crores. Also, Bodyguard was made at a budget of 60 cr as compared to Ra.One’s 135 cr.

Plus, Bodyguard was sold at normal ticket price and released on lesser number of screens.

Ra.One 4 Weeks Worldwide Lifetime Collections

It Seems that there is an end to the run of Ra.One at the Box office this week. First Ra.One was Hindered by Rockstar and now Desi Boyz is Going to Trouble it.

Here are All the Figures For Ra.One for its First 4 Weeks.

India(Hindi) – 116 crores (updated & accurate)
India(Regional) – 8.55 crores
Overseas(All) – 47 crores (to be released in more markets soon)

Total – 171.55 crores

This is an Excellent Figure and is just 12.5 crores short of Bodyguard’s huge 183 crores. Ra.One May Break Bodyguard’s Lifetime Collections of the world if the markets in which it is yet to be released perform the same way like the other ones in the world.

Rockstar doesn't rock in week 2. Desi Boyz restricted to adults

Despite no potential opposition, business of 'Rockstar' dropped in week 2. 'Desi Boyz' is hot proposition at the box office but might lose audience due to adult certification.

In times when modest films are clicking more than the mega-budget ones, one was expecting Shakal Pe Mat Ja to work on its merits. Unfortunately it didn't boast of many and with no star-value or story, it has clearly bombed at the box office. Hrishita Bhatt's maiden attempt as a producer and Shubh Mukherji's debut as a director failed to register for its poor performances, loud humour and boring screenplay.

Rockstar might have opened huge but after the euphoria died down over the first weekend, the collections have been consistently sliding down. And this despite the fact that the film had no major opposition in its second week! The second weekend collections are estimated at around Rs 10 crores. This seems to be another case (soon after Ra.One) of a film recovering its money but not being a money-spinner, as expected.

"While the response to the film has been divergently different with some loving the film and some hating it, one unanimous reaction that the film has drawn from all is Ranbir Kapoor's matured performance. And irrespective of what others associated with the film would gain; Ranbir is the one to have earned the most", says a trade expert.

The coming week sees two releases. Dam 999 might have a modest cast but the action-thriller about a dam disaster is coming in 3D version and is releasing in multiple languages from English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. That gives it a wide audience and if the 3D effects (on which the film is hugely banking upon) are decent enough, it could bring luck.

The other release Desi Boyz starring Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Deepika Padukone and Chitrangda Singh is, undoubtedly, hot proposition at the box-office. With a star-studded cast and great production values, the hot hunks are sure to be in good demand. However the only drawback for the film is that it has received an adult certification from the censor board. Says a trade expert, "Akshay Kumar and John Abraham have a huge fan-following amongst kids and teenagers and Desi Boyz would lose on this potential target audience. Also Desi Boyz was always targeted at the family audience and the 'A' certificate could prove as a hindrance".

'Rockstar' earns Rs 64 crore, Shabana terms it a new beginning

Veteran actress Shabana Azmi has praised Ranbir Kapoor's performance and said that the film "tugged at my heartstrings...Hindi cinema is finally coming of age".

Co-produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision Ltd and Eros International, the film released on more than 2,000 screens worldwide and registered Rs.53 crore in India and Rs.11 crore overseas in first three days of its release, said a statement.

The musical thriller, made on a budget of over Rs.60 crore, opened with mixed reviews, but everyone praised Ranbir's performance as an aspiring singer who turns into an aggressive lover after being jilted.

Both critics and fans describe it as young actor's finest performance to date and Shabana agrees too.

"Ranbir's performance in 'Rockstar' is totally original he inhabits Jordan's complex world and infuses it with childlike honesty that's believable," she posted on micro-blogging site Twitter.

"Imtiaz Ali's writing in 'Rockstar' is surprising and unpredictable. Tugged at my heartstrings...Hindi cinema is finally coming of age..wow," she further added.

"Rockstar" introduces two new faces - Pakistani-American model Nargis Fakhri and Brazilian model Moufid Aziz.

DON 2 Music Review

EXPECTATIONS

There are immense expectations from the music of Don 2 and there are quite a few reasons for that:

- This is one of the most anticipated sequels of the current times and actually takes the story forward, hence almost warranting that good music would be the soul here
- Music of Don - The Chase Begins is still playing, courtesy 'Aaj Ki Raat' which is popular despite being heard first half a decade ago
- Music coming from the house of Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani always promises a certain degree of class
- Whenever Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Javed Akhtar have come together, they have seldom failed
With such factors raising one's expectations to a real high, nothing less than fantabulous is acceptable for the music of Don 2.

MUSIC

Write your own music review of Don 2 Shah Rukh Khan's begins the album with a 35 second long monologue where he hints of his arrival all over again. In the current scenario, this could well be a statement from him to all his detractors (in real life as well) where he conveys the point loud and clear that he would never fade away in oblivion and it's a matter of time that 'he is back'.

Next to arrive is the title song which goes as 'Zaraa Dil Ko Thaam Lo'. This track basically picks thread from 'Aaj Ki Raat' and aims at bringing back the sound of the early 80s though in a fresh new presentation with clear inspiration from James Bond flicks. Nothing wrong with that as it actually goes well with the film's genre and it creates the kind of mood which is expected from the genre to which Don 2 belongs. While Anusha Mani begins the proceedings, it is Vishal Dadlani who arrives a little later in the day with the quartet of Raman Mahadevan, Mani Mahadevan, Siddharth Mahadevan and Kshitij Wagh coming together for a chorus. Not the kind that you would hum around the streets, this one is basically a theme track that should take the story forward.

What catches your attention though is 'Hai Ye Maya' which fuses the action genre of late 70s/early 80s well with the contemporary sound hence fully justifying it's inclusion in Don 2. Expect the song to play at various junctures in the film as and when there is a thrilling encounter involving Shah Rukh Khan. Though in last few years Usha Uthup has come behind the mike for many a Bollywood tracks, it is 'Hai Ye Maya' which turns out to be her best in ages. It is remarkable to see the lady doing exceedingly well and holding her own in the times when dozens of youngsters have come and gone. Add to this the kind of composition that Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have managed here and there is all the more reason to grab the 'remix version' with both ears!

Listening to 'Dushman Mera' reminds of many a cabaret sequences from the 70s that had the likes of Helen, Padma Khanna or Bindu gyrating to a fast paced tune in a villain's den. The song in question has a female protagonist hunting for her 'dushman' with the man of the moment having his own score to settle with his enemies. While Sunitha Sarathi is an unconventional choice as a singer here, she still does well. However what is surprising is to hear Shankar Mahadevan sounding so differently from his usual self. Also, one wonders why there wasn't another singer roped in for the job as Shankar seems a bit out of place here.

Thankfully fun is restored soon after with 'The King Is Back - Theme'. A four minute long piece that takes forward the anthem of 'Don' that has been popular for over three decades now, this one is an absolute killer with Sunitha Sarathi justifying her inclusion as the singer here. She has a few words to mouth though in this musical piece which acts as a wonderful background score, so much so that one can't have enough of it despite hearing it repeatedly.

Shaan's version of 'Main Hoon Don' from Don - The Chase Begins Again is presented again in Don 2 as 'Mujhko Pehchaanlo'. This time around the man who has been entrusted with the responsibility of being the voice of 'Don' is K.K. who comes up with a full throated rendition. Surprisingly though, the zing of the original is missing here what with neither the voice nor the overall arrangements really cutting the ice. Lyrics are different this time around and though yet again it's the call of the central protagonist for his enemies to be aware of his second coming, the thrill is missing here as well as in the 'remix version'.

Last to arrive is 'The 'Don' Waltz' and while it may go along well with the film's narrative, the only exciting portion for the listener here is the point where Caralisa Monteiro brings back the theme sound of Don.

OVERALL
As mentioned at the very beginning, nothing less than a rocking album was expected from Don 2. However, what one gets to hear is a soundtrack which is pretty much a mixed bag. At places it works while at points, it just doesn't make you jump with joy. Also, there isn't anything which comes across as memorable enough to be played a few months down the line, leave aside a few years. Eventually what you get is a soundtrack that would go along with the narrative and acts as a good situational ingredient but that's about it.
