Singham - Box Office

As expected, the audience have welcomed Singhamwith wide arms. Future weeks seems to be bright forSingham at the Box Office. Almost all the screens reported 80% to 90% to 100% occupancy. The film earned a lot of accolades with whistles and claps.

Singham turned out to be a huge surprise when audience at a cineplex in Ahmedabad gave a standing ovation to the film after the show concluded.Singham also gathered a lot of appreciation in Rajasthan, where the distributor's phone kept ringing since 3 a.m. on Friday, after a midnight screening of the film.

On the other hand, the business of Singham got affected at plexes on Friday morning and noon since its release was uncertain till Thursday night. The show timing therefore were not published in newspapers. The multiplexes also did not sell the tickets in advance because the revenue sharing terms between the distributors and multiplexes was not decided till Thursday night. Despite all these issues the the opening shows were decent.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara chased in golds in its first week at box office with a collection of Rs. 45 crore nett, making it a big hit. Meanwhile, Murder 2 completed its two weeks with an aggregate collection of Rs. 43.50 crore nett. It’s a Hit again.

Looks like masala films is the trend of Bollywood presently. Rohit Shetty's direction Singham, starring Ajay Devgn, Kajal Aggarwal and Prakash Raj emerges as the second biggest opener of 2011, after Ready. Singham collects a massive amount of Rs 31.07 cr in its opening weekend, despite the fact that its multiplex release got affected on Friday.

The film's business was also hampered because of no-show in a Southern circuit. Karnataka generally, yields excellent revenue for Bollywood films. The opening weekend business was clearly divided, with single screens which has contributed to the hefty total. The business at plexes shot upwards on Saturday and Sunday. On Friday Singham collected 9.03 crores on Friday. On Saturday the business amounted to 9.67 crore. However, Sunday saw a whooping collection of 12.37 crore.

Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol, Katrina Kaif, Kalki, Naseeruddin Shah, Deepti Naval starring Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara continued to dominate the multiplexes in its second weekend, despite a strong opponent like Singham. In fact, at few of the urban centres the second weekend business of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara was at par or better than Singham. The single screens for the film did not perform well, however only on the basis of plexes alone the film is ranked as a hit.
