Box Office report: 'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan' off to a flyer; 'Bodyguard' sets a new record

The cash registers continue to ring at the box office. After a record breaking first week by Salman Khan’s latest blockbuster Bodyguard, it is Katrina Kaif’s Mere Brother Ki Dulhan that is pulling the crowds now. Mere Brother Ki Dulhan opened on Friday with a heartening 80 to 90 percent response at multiplexes. The NCR region comprising Delhi and surrounding cities saw the most positive response from cine goers. The occupancy at single screen theatres, however, was slightly lower, between the 50 to 60 percent range. But overall, the response has been pretty good and the film is expected to witness a good first weekend. Though the film has got mixed reviews from the critics, the cine going crowd seems to like it. The last week’s release Bodyguard has broken all box office records. In its first extended week of nine days (the film released last Wednesday) Bodyguard has raked in a net collection of approximately Rs 111 crore, thereby becoming the highest grossing Bollywood film for the opening week. Here are the all-time top five first-week earners of Bollywood: 1. Bodyguard - Rs. 111 crore in 9 days 2. Dabangg - Rs 81 crore 3. 3 Idiots - Rs 80 crore 4. Ready - Rs 68 crore 5. Ghajini - Rs 64 crore As you must have noticed, the top five have three films by Salman and two by Aamir Khan. We will wait to see if Shahrukh Khan manages to earn a place in the top five with either or both of his upcoming releases - Ra.One and Don 2.
